MORE than 70 cars took part in a tribute to murder victim Shane Tunney yesterday (Saturday, August 15).

The tribute involved the cars, decorated with a blue ribbon - Mr Tunney's favourite colour - driving slowly down Norton High Street in Norton, near Stockton before heading to Preston Park, in Eaglescliffe, where blue balloons were released into the sky.

His family joined in the cavalcade, while hundreds of mourners lined the streets in tribute to the avid car enthusiast.

The Tunney family said in a statement: "On behalf of our family we would like to personally say a big thank you to everyone who lined Norton High Street.

"It means so much that people had taken time out of their day to show Norton isn't all bad."

The 24-year-old died five weeks after he was attacked on Norton High Street, in the early hours of on June 27, by a group of youths.

Nine people were arrested in connection with the incident and all have been released on police bail.

Police released pictures of an Audi car they say was parked on Norton High Street shortly before the attack. They are trying to trace the driver as they believe he may have seen a group of youths in the area.

Anyone who may have information about the attack on Mr Tunney is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
