FOUR 16-year-old boys have been arrested on suspicion of theft and driving offences after police officers chased a scooter through Preston Park, in Eaglescliffe near Stockton.
Members of the public had alerted Cleveland Police to a group of teenage boys on a scooter near Preston Park on Saturday afternoon and officers arrived at the scene and ran after the suspects.
A police spokesman said: "After seeing a scooter travelling along the pavement close to the park, on Yarm Road, police followed it to a dead end where it was abandoned in a garden near Bardsley Close.
"Officers ran after the suspects into Preston Park, and with the help of the public, uniform and CID officers from Stockton and the police helicopter, four boys, aged 16, were arrested on suspicion of theft and driving offences."
Cleveland Police Roads Policing Unit said that checks revealed the scooter was stolen from the Roseworth area of Stockton in the early hours of Saturday morning.
