PUPILS at two Stockton schools have won awards for their enterprise skills.

The award ceremony held at Teesside University's Student's Union last week is designed to encourage business enterprise and all the children attend schools in the north of England sponsored by the Northern Education Trust, a charity which aims to drive up education standards.

The challenge for the day was for all students to create the perfect pencil case.

Secondary school pupils from The Grangefield Academy won a prize for product design and children from the Oak Tree Primary Academy won the prize for marketing.

The finals gave students the opportunity to visit four themed 'Dragon’s Den' areas consisting of marketing, sales, finance and product design tasks.

These tasks were then judged by more than ten business representatives from across the North-East who were acting as ‘dragons’ for the day.

Les Walton CBE, chairman of the Northern Education Trust, said: “Days like today will be fondly remembered by all those taking part as a day when new friends were made, new skills were learned and some very important life experiences gained for the future."
