FIREFIGHTERS spent several hours tackling a large fire at an industrial unit on a North-East trading estate.

Large plumes of smoke could be seen drifting towards the A19 when the blaze started at a premises at the rear of B&Q in Stockton, just off Portrack Lane, at about 9am this morning (Sunday, June 28).

Several Cleveland Fire Brigade units were on site as two premises at the Lustrum unit were damaged by fire.

Cleveland Police were on hand to assist with road closure at the junction of Cheltenham Road and Ascot Drive while the fire was tackled.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Fire Brigade said two units were well alight and a large section of the roof was also on fire.

The Command and Support unit along with the aerial ladder platform were also in use.
