LEE Rigby’s family visited the region last week for an emotional fundraiser held in his memory.

Several members of the late soldier’s family travelled to The Don Bar in Stockton for a tribute evening arranged by landlady Julie Cooper.

Fusilier Rigby’s wife, son and parents were guests of honour at the event, which saw young Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist George Emery and his friend, Joe Garratt perform their moving cover of Wiz Khalifa’s See You Again.

Rebecca Rigby, wife of the drummer murdered by Islamic extremists, broke down in tears as she watched their performance.

Ms Cooper said she felt humbled at meeting the family.

She said: “When Lee Rigby’s father shook my hand and I met the rest of his family I felt so humbled.

“I could see the pain that they’d been through by looking in their eyes – they’re a lovely family and I felt so sorry for them.”

George Emery, 17, said: “The night went really well and it was amazing to realise that what we set out to do had come true, we got the song to his family.

“It was even more overwhelming that they actually came to the event.”

The event raised £1,196 that will be donated to the Forces Support charity.
