LEE Rigby’s widow has thanked North-East teenagers for their poignant tribute to the late fusilier.

Rebecca Rigby said she was moved to tears watching a touching video created in homage to her husband by George Emery and Joe Garratt, from Stockton.

The 17-year-olds put together a video of themselves performing Wiz Khalifa’s See You Again ahead of a charity night being held in aid of the tragic soldier, murdered in 2013 by Islamic extremists.

The video has attracted thousands of hits online, as well as the attention of Fusilier Rigby’s heartbroken loved ones.

Mrs Rigby reached out to the pair to thank them personally for keeping her husband’s memory alive.

She said: “Listening to the cover and watching the video brought me to tears but I really like it.”

Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist George said the pair had been overwhelmed to receive the support of Mrs Rigby.

He said: “It’s amazing, I’m still coming to terms with the fact that we reached her and her son.

“We are just completely overwhelmed by the whole thing.”

Speaking to The Northern Echo, Mrs Rigby also gave her backing to the upcoming charity event, taking place at Stockton’s military-themed Don Bar on Saturday, May 23 – the day after the second anniversary of Fusilier Rigby’s death.

Organised by landlady Julie Cooper in a bid to honour Lee Rigby and other servicemen and women, it is being held to raise funds for Forces Support.

Mrs Rigby said the charity had offered her family invaluable support as they tried to come to terms with their terrible loss.

She said: “I would also like to thank Julie Cooper at the Don Bar, and everyone involved with the fundraiser, it’s all for a fantastic cause.

“Forces Support helped make our house a home - they decorated Jack’s toy room, giving him an area he has since spent hours of fun in.

“We personally know how much work the work done by Forces Support means, and cannot thank them enough.”

The charity event will take place from 2pm until late and will feature a variety of activities including a barbecue, face painting, raffles and stalls.

George Emery and Joe Garratt will perform their tribute from 6pm.

Entrance is free but donations to Forces Support are welcome.
