A POPULAR pirate festival which raises much-needed funds for charity will return to North-East shores this summer.

Following a successful launch event last year, which attracted 4,000 people, Stockton Pirate Festival will return on July 4 and 5.

The event will feature seven music stages, children’s entertainment acts, including a Captain Jack Sparrow lookalike, a treasure hunt across Stockton, face-painting, hat-making and craft fairs.

Music stages will be based at various venues around Stockton town, including Cafe Infinity, The Music Lounge, and The Dubliners.

All proceeds from Saturday will go towards the Huckins Family Appeal, which raises money for the Huckins family who are suffering from Lyme disease.

The family is trying to raise about £70,000 in order to see a specialist abroad and discover the cause of their health problems.

On Sunday, all proceeds will go towards Maxi’s Big Build, which is raising money to build new kennels in Guisborough, following the closure of Waterfall Kennels.

The event takes place from 10am to 10pm on Saturday and Sunday, July 4 and 5, beginning at the HM Bark Endeavour, at Castlegate, with some events spanning across the town centre.
