THE controversial programme Benefits Street, which is centred in Stockton, is set for screening on Monday night.
The first series of the fly-on-the-wall documentary was set on James Turner Street in Birmingham and caused such controversy that the release of this the second series on Stockton's Kingston Road was held back until after the General Election.
Filming of the programme caused uproar and Stockton Borough Council organised a 'Positively Stockton' campaign in an attempt to project a more positive image of the town.
The show has been criticised as "poverty porn" but others have argued it has highlighted a problem of benefits dependency.
TV Production company, Love Productions, has stressed that the programme also shows positive aspects of living in the tight-knit community of Stockton's Tilery estate. The programme starts at 9pm on Channel 4.
