A CHILDREN’S author read extracts of his latest book to enthralled primary school youngsters.

Simon Mayle entertained youngsters at Christ The King RC Primary School with the second book of his ShoutyKid series.

‘ShoutyKid 2: How Harry Riddles Mega-Massively Broke The School’ is the latest of his books for ages eight and over, are told through hilarious

letters, emails and texts.

Mr Mayle read extracts from the book to about 150 children from years 4, 5 and 6 from Thornaby primary schools, before holding a question and answer

session with the children.

Emma Small, Year 5 classroom teacher at Christ The King, said the children were “really enthusiastic” about the visit.

“We had the first three chapters emailed and the children were eagerly awaiting what happens next,” she said.

“Lots of children had put forward various questions for Simon, such as ‘Do your children like to watch you write?’ He said no, they would rather be

out on the beach and surfing.”

Mr Mayle grew up in the USA but now lives in Cornwall with his wife and their own ‘Shoutykids’, aged 12 and 14.

He works in film and television and among his credits are ‘There’s Only One Jimmy Grimble’ – winner of a Brown Bear at Berlin Film Festival, Golden Griffin at Giffoni, best feature at Vienna and best feature at Kyoto.movies.

The first Shouty Kid: How Harry Riddles Made a Mega-Amazing Zombie Movie, is published by Harper Collins.
