SHADOW home secretary Yvette Cooper visited the region today to lend her support to a Labour candidate fighting a key seat.

Ms Cooper joined Louise Baldock, Labour candidate for Stockton South, to meet police officers at Stockton Police Station before visiting the town centre offices of Harbour, a charity which works with both victims and perpetrators of domestic abuse.

Stockton South had a Conservative majority of just 332 in 2010 and it is seen as an important seat for both main parties.

She outlined Labour’s plans to fund the protection of 10,000 neighbourhood police officer posts by abolishing Police and Crime Commissioners and placing police scrutiny in the hands of local government instead.
