ASPIRING young politicians from across Stockton borough have delivered their ‘end of term’ report to councillors at a meeting of the authority's cabinet.

The Stockton Youth Assembly, established in 2013, is made up of young people between the ages of 11 and 19 (up to 25 years old for young people with special needs).

Their two-year term ended in February 2015 and they have now reported back to councillors on their achievements across a work programme including health and wellbeing, sport and leisure, community safety and the environment.

They have secured a whole host of achievements ranging from completing the British Youth Council’s Youth Voice Award to hosting an event celebrating Youth Voice which brought together groups from across the borough to encourage inclusive youth opportunities.

Other highlights include their work with the Young Carers Quest Project which raised awareness of the work done by young carers, their support of the Police and Crime Panel to encourage connections between young people and the Police and their contributions on the mental health and wellbeing of young people to Stockton Council’s Public Health team.

David Harrington, Stockton Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Corporate Management and Finance, said: “Their end of term report illustrates just how hard they have worked in achieving a series of positive outcomes.”

New representatives for the Assembly are being sought and any interested young person should speak to their appropriate Head Teacher or School Council. If they are involved with a youth club or other group, they should contact the Youth Direction team on 01642 528129.
