TWO further accidents caused problems on the A19 this morning (MONDAY) - just a day after a series of crashes left one woman fighting for her life.

A Toyota Yaris and a Hyundai i20 crashed on the northbound carriageway, just before the B1281 near Wheatley Hill at about 7.10am, Durham Police said. Lane two was closed until 7.40am - but those involved escaped serious injury.

There were also reports of a further rush hour smash just after 8am this morning on the northbound carriageway of the A19 in Middlesbrough between the A66 junction and Portrack Interchange.

Cleveland Police said no-one was injured when two vehicles, a red Fiat 500 and a silver Mazda crashed. They were escorted off the A19 and on to Portrack Lane so the drivers could exchange insurance details.

The accidents follow yesterday's "bedlam" on the A19 after it was closed for six hours following two accidents - one of which left a 59-year-old woman fighting for her life.
