THE historic Crathorne Hall hotel, which was recently ravaged by fire, is expected to re-open in a matter of days.

The Northern Echo understands the Grade II-listed building will re-open on Monday, November 10 following a fire which gutted the east wing on October 1.

Not every room will reopen by the hotel at Crathorne, near Yarm, is expected to be operational.

But an announcement by owners Handpicked Hotels on the Crathorne Hall website said: "Due to the recent fire in the East Wing of Crathorne Hall Hotel, we regret to advise you that the hotel will be closed until Monday, November 2014 whilst we carry out essential remedial work."

About 100 firefighters tackled the fire, which destroyed 16 bedrooms, the hotel's kitchen, some meeting rooms and some staff areas were ruined, although no-one was injured.

A full report into the cause of the fire has not yet been completed. However North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue has said an electric fly killer in the east wing attic is a possible cause. The fire service is confident that the cause of the fire was accidental.
