AN event to highlight the range of services available to help vulnerable people stay safe in their homes has proved to be a success.

The Stockton Falls Awareness Campaign saw a number of organisations take over the town hall to highlight what is available to support elderly people to stay in their own homes and how to make a home child friendly for under fives.

Councillor Julia Cherrett, the chairman of the Stockton Home Safety Association, said she was delighted with the number of people who came along to the event.

She said: "We had lots of different groups and organisations at the event for people to speak to throughout the day. People were able to learn more about what services are available to them, whether it is a handrail for their home or telecare services which help people stay in their homes safely.

"The really important message we are trying to get across is that it doesn't matter what you need to make your house safer, there is something available to help out.

"The service used to only cater for elderly and vulnerable people but we have decided to include families with children under-five, who can benefit from advice and help to prevent incidents of scalding and making homes bump friendly."

Among the organisations who were at the event were Age UK Teesside, Cleveland Fire Brigade, Housing Adaptions and Stockton Independent Living Centre.
