PEOPLE are set to be captivated by a stunning live performance commemorating the centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.

Homecoming will combine a mix of digital visuals, music and thought provoking outdoor theatrical production when it debuts at Preston Park Museum, near Eaglescliffe.

Stockton Borough Council is working in partnership with the four other Tees Valley local authorities to produce five large scale outdoor theatrical performances of the production, each one telling a story from the five towns.

A range of special effects including mobile structures, digital projections, music, lights and pyrotechnics will bring to life stories from the frontline.

The production tells the stories of residents’ contribution to the war, both on the home front and foreign battlefields overseas.

Councillor Ken Dixon, the council’s cabinet member for arts, leisure and culture, said: “Homecoming is a poignant and creative way to commemorate the unforgettable efforts of those who contributed to the First World War. This spectacular performance explores the real stories of people from our region using archived materials and first-hand records that we have from that period. I hope you can come along and discover a little more of what life may have been like.”

The performance has been created by award-winning visual theatre company, Periplum, in collaboration with the Tees Valley Commemorative Partnership and local communities across the region.

The event is free of charge but entry tickets will be required for the event starting at 8.30pm on Saturday, September 27.
