VISITORS to an east Cleveland forest are in for a treat later this month when a number of bizarre creatures will break cover.

The Guisborough Forest Festival will see more than 100 exhibitors showcasing their forest and country crafts and produce, while a cast of colourful characters will create a riot of music, fun and frolics.

The outdoor celebration of all things rustic, now in its 11th year, returns on Sunday, September 14 when creatures such as Creeper, Willow and Mother Nature will be sprouting through the undergrowth.

Artisitic director Mark Tate said: “Once in our amazing costumes, decked with lots of foliage, we look half human and half shrub. It breaks all the laws of evolution but it’s been a big hit for us, and it’s perfect for the Forest Festival we are really looking forward to it.”

The fantasy forest dwellers are played by acrobats from the acclaimed ‘Screaming me mes’ troupe and will be mingling with the crowds.

And there will be a chance for people to try their hand at bushcraft sessions, enjoy willow weaving and circus skills.

Forestry Commission Ranger Cath Bashforth said: “The festival is the forests showcase event, we have loads of activities lined up, including a chance to try wood turning, pottery, archery and even make your own natural bath bomb.”
