CLEVELAND Fire Brigade will be opening its doors for an action packed day of fun for all the family this week.

Firefighters will host a range of demonstrations and activities will be on offer throughout the day, as well as advice and information on how to stay safe.

Demonstrations will include, how they free motorists following a road traffic accident, rescue people from buildings, as well as showing specialist skills to rescue people using line rescue and hydraulic platforms.

Youngsters will get the chance to spray water from a firefighters hose, as well as other activities and games including, face painting and tag rugby.

Chris Chisholm, head of learning and development with the brigade, said: “These events are always popular and are part of the brigade’s ongoing work to forge strong links with local communities and promote community safety.”

“We held a similar event last year which attracted around 1200 visitors and we are hoping for a good turnout again this year. Admission is free and it gives families something extra to do during the school holidays.

“We have put together a varied programme of activities to suit all ages and it should be a great day.”

The open day will take place at the brigade’s Learning & Development Centre, Church Lane/Trunk Road, Grangetown, Middlesbrough between 11am and 3pm tomorrow (Wednesday, May 28).

The brigade also provides free Home Fire Safety Visits and fits smoke alarms if needed. Call 01429 874063 to arrange a visit to your home and you will receive specific fire safety advice for you and your family.
