FUN and cake was had to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the opening of a £100m regeneration scheme today, Tuesday, April 10.

The new mayor of Stockton, coun Barbara Inman, took part in the celebrations at Mandale Park in Thornaby.

Two ten-year-old children from the estate, both born in April, 2004, cut a house-shaped cake.

There was also a bouncy castle, face painting and colouring competition as well as a tea for some of the estate’s elderly residents.

The project included the demolition of the estate’s original 578 houses, with 770 new homes being built so far. A further 90 homes are due to be built by 2016.

“It’s been a really good fun event,” said a Stockton council spokesman.

The scheme is being led by Stockton Council in partnership with Tristar Homes, Barratt Homes, Keepmoat and Isos Housing and has received financial support from the Homes and Communities Agency.
