FURTHER to ‘Council comes under fire from education chief.’ (Echo, May 9).
Many people in Redcar & Cleveland will be worried that Redcar & Cleveland Council have been very slow in implementing changes on legislation on special educational needs from 2014.
One wonders what the council’s opposition groups have been doing to let the changes drift for so long.
The council’s own scrutiny processes should have held the minority Labour controlled council to account on such a lengthy delay. However the relatively new Conservative councillor for the Hutton ward Dr Caroline Jackson has highlighted this council shortcoming by stating “Children with special educational needs and disabilities are amongst the most vulnerable children in our borough and it appears from the report we are failing them.”
Hopefully her words will bring about some immediate action.
