FIRE crews were called to a reported fire near a gas main at the back of a supermarket last night.
Cleveland Fire Brigade said three appliances were in attendance at the fire to the rear of the Co-operative Food shop in Norton, Stockton.
A spokesman for Northern Gas Networks confirmed its engineers were at the scene following reports of a fire before 7pm.
"Our engineers have turned off the gas supply to the property and made the area safe," he said.
“Anyone who thinks they smell gas is asked to call 0800 111 999."
The store is expected to be open as normal today.
