THE universe is set to unfold its mysteries as art meets science in a North-East project to work on dark matter detection.
Professor Sean Paling and particle astrophysicist, doctor Chamkaur Ghah, accompanied a group of artists to travel 1,100m below ground in the UK's deepest working mine at Boulby, east Cleveland.
Their visit to the mine became a catalyst for the artists to develop work focused on dark matter for an installation at the Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum, at Skinningrove.
A museum spokesman said: "Laboratory of Dark Matters is a response by artists to scientific investigations into the unknown nature of the universe.
"Through a programme of exhibitions, workshops, talks and events it invites everyone driven by curiosity to explore fundamental questions about matter and consciousness."
The museum will host a family open day between 11am and 5pm on Saturday, August 19, with the exhibition remaining open until early September.
