AN MP has written to the government to raise concerns about the “unacceptable” closure of a medical practice.

Marske Medical Practice will close on June 30 following four unsuccessful attempts to find a service provider for the site.

Redcar MP Anna Turley has now sent a letter to health secretary Jeremy Hunt regarding the closure of the practice off Hall Close, in Markse-by-the-Sea.

In the letter, Ms Turley says the decision to close the centre leaves more than 5,000 patients looking for a space at other practices which are already “overstretched”.

She wrote: “Many of my constituents who rely on receiving regular care from this centre are elderly and vulnerable.

“It is not acceptable that they could now have to travel to Redcar or Saltburn to see their GP.

“This situation also demonstrates the wider GP recruitment crisis and the huge pressure it is putting on NHS services.

“Evidently, relying on expensive locum doctors to provide services is not sustainable and my constituents are now paying the price.”

Ms Turley said she hoped to meet Mr Hunt to find out what support the Government can give to “maintain GP services” in Redcar.

Last week, the NHS South Tees Clinical Commissioning Group said they were left with “little choice” but to close the practice.
