VOLUNTEERS from a number of community groups came together at the weekend to support The Big Tees Tidy Up and the Redcar and Cleveland ‘Love It’ campaign.
Around 30 volunteers from the Friends of Redcar (FRED), River Tees Rediscovered and Surfers Against Sewage gave up their Sunday morning to clear almost a tonne of fly-tipped rubbish from the dunes and beaches at Paddy’s Hole and the South Gare.
The rubbish, the most common of which included plastic bottles, cans and plastic caps, was collected by Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council.
Cllr Carl Quartermain, chairman of FRED and borough councillor, praised the efforts saying: “Paddy’s Hole and the whole of the South Gare is a fabulous part of Redcar’s environment and heritage. It is a place of real potential for increased leisure and relaxing. The views here are stunning and yet some people seem intent on abusing this area rather than helping it.”
