A BURGLARY victim has described his disgust after his house was ransacked by raiders.

Ian Martin and Anthony Fitzgerald smashed through patio doors to gain entry to the home in Skelton, east Cleveland.

They stole jewellery, five watches, a laptop computer, two safes, cigarettes, cash and a passport.

The occupier, who had been out, said he was angry and sickened by the burglary which occurred during the daytime on September 16 last year.

Prosecuting at Teesside Crown Court, Paul Newcombe said the defendants disturbed a neighbour during the raid.

His CCTV cameras captured the burglary in process with the evidence being used by police to bring Martin and Fitzgerald to book.

Both men admitted burglary, while Martin admitted a separate offence of simple possession of a class C drug.

Gary Wood, mitigating said 28-year-old Martin, of Sandringham Road, Grangetown, Middlesbrough, was no stranger to custody and had previous convictions for burglary.

Fitzgerald, 20, of Rydal Avenue, Grangetown, was said to have been intoxicated at the time of the burglary, having taken a combination of cocaine and sleeping tablets.

Martin was jailed for two years and Fitzgerald given 18 months detention in a young offenders’ institution.
