YOUNG chatterbox Paige Harbisher managed to keep quiet for a whole day at school – in an effort to help injured veterans.

The 12-year-old from Redcar resisted attempts by her classmates at Rye Hills School to make her speak so she could raise as much sponsor money as possible for Help for Heroes.

And she was able to hand over £62 when she visited the charity’s northern recovery centre, Phoenix House at Catterick, to be given a VIP tour with her mum Carrie.

“I knew that Help for Heroes gave money to injured soldiers so I thought I was just taking my donation to an office,” said Paige.

“I didn’t know there was a place where those being helped could actually stay or visit and do activities and meet each other. That really surprised me.

“The best thing I learned was that there are family rooms so that husbands or wives and children can also stay and get support.”

Paige chose to raise money for Help for Heroes because she has two uncles in the Army and her dad David served with the Royal Logistics Corps for ten years.

“My dad joked that he was upset that I only did the sponsored silence at school and not at home so he didn’t benefit from it,” added Paige who has vowed to organise regular fundraising activities from now on for Help for Heroes – starting with a sponsored walk later this year.
