TWO men are due to appear in court after a dog was found buried alive with a nail through its head.
The small, terrier dog – which the RSPCA named ‘Scamp’ – was found by walkers at Kirkleatham Woods in Redcar in October.
Walkers heard whimpering in the woods before discovering a mound of earth - and uncovered the dog, who was still alive and had the nail through his head.
The couple called the police immediately, before rushing the dog to a nearby vets, who put it to sleep.
Two men from Redcar, aged 59 and 60, are now due before Teesside Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday facing charges relating to the dog’s death, brought by the RSPCA.
Redcar MP Anna Turley, who is campaigning for tougher sentences for those convicted of animal cruelty, is expected to present a bill to Parliament on Friday.
