ENGINEERS close to completing reconstruction work on museum attraction have appealed for help to bring the machine back to life.

A two-metre fan used to draw air into or push air out of North-East mines is being restored at the Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum to show visitors how lives could be saved of those working deep underground.

However, the reconstructed sirocco fan needs a powerful new motor to complete the rebuilt mining machine based in Skinningrove, east Cleveland.

A Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum spokesman said: “With the help of local engineering students at Freebrough College, the sirocco fan has been rebuilt at three-quarters of its original size and forms part of the hour and a half fully-guided tour which immerses visitors in a day in the life of an ironstone miner.”

He added: “The museum is looking for a generous business willing to donate a three-quarter horsepower motor with connected gear box of around 1:40.”

The museum will open between Saturday, February 11, and Saturday, February 25, from 10am until 3.30pm on weekdays and 1pm until 3.30pm on Saturdays.

Those interested in work experience or volunteering at the site are also urged to contact the museum by calling 01287-642877 or by emailing jean@ironstonemuseum.co.uk
