NORTH Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses after a serious assault in York which left a man critically injured.

The incident took place at about 5.30pm on Saturday, September 17, outside McDonalds on Blake Street, York, after two men became involved in an argument.

The victim, a 29-year-old man, was struck in the head, and fell to the pavement, suffering serious head injuries. He is receiving treatment in Hull Royal Infirmary, where he is in a critical condition.

The suspect, a 30-year-old man from the Cleveland area, was arrested a short time later on Coney Street, on suspicion of wounding with intent. He was also arrested on suspicion of assault, in connection with an assault on a 15-year-old boy during the same incident. He remains in custody at this time.
