THE final programme for the highly popular Festival of Thrift is being drawn up by organisers.

This year the festival will take place at Kirkleatham Museum near Redcar on Saturday, September 17 and Sunday, September 18.

The schedule will include workshops, debates and talks but also entertainment including cutting-edge art installations and street theatre.

Organisers hope those attending will become actively involved. The festival’s director, Stella Hall, explained: “The Festival of Thrift isn’t an event to idly watch go by, though there are some very relaxing activities on site too.

“There are over 140 things to see and do at the event including the opportunity for visitors to make, learn and go away with something new to pass on; skills, knowledge, stories, thrifty purchases or even new friends. As ever, artists of all kinds are at heart of things, helping us see ourselves and our resources in a new way.”

Some of the highlights of the free to enter event include a dining experience inspired by the history, folklore, famous faces and tales of Redcar and a fashion parade inspired by the museum and Redcar Races.

The festival was previously held in Darlington for three years and attracted tens of thousands of people but has now moved to Redcar.
