A NEW, junior Parkrun has been launched in Redcar – and paths and routes are being improved to make the town become more attractive to runners.

The New Marske Harriers are spearheading the projects to improve tracks in Locke Park and Fox Rush Community Woodland.

Helped by a £16,000 funding boost from Tees Valley Community Foundation and Tesco Bags of Help, as well as support from the Friends of Locke Park, the Harriers will remove chicken wire from bridges and replace them with anti-slip strips, and introduce new running trails of different distances, ranging from easy to difficult, with a new map of routes being created.

But the highlight of Redcar’s running boom is the introduction of a junior two kilometre parkrun starting on Sunday 14 August. The junior events are for under-14s and run on a shorter course. For information about the Harriers visit www.new-marske-harriers.co.uk
