POLICE are looking for two people who ran from the scene after a car crashed into a wall and ended up on its roof.

The incident happened in Guisborough Road, Nunthorpe, on the outskirts of Middlesbrough on Tuesday morning.

Police and fire crews were called to the scene at 11.20am.

The driver and passenger of the Audi had fled the scene before the emergency services arrived.

The road was closed while a recovery vehicle attended the scene and removed the vehicle.

Local councillor Jon Rathmell said residents have raised concerns about the road with Middlesbrough Council and Cleveland Police in an attempt to reduce the number of accidents.

He said: "Just last week we had another meeting on site with the council and police. They've had motorcycles, traffic cars and vans at random times since September.

"They've caught some but then drivers have been flashing to warn each other. The council are also finalising plans to improve the road."

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: "We were called to reports of a black Audi A3 which had collided with a wall on Guisborough Road in Middlesbrough at 11.20am. The vehicle was on its roof as a result of the collision.

"The driver and passenger of the Audi made off from the scene before police arrived and it is unknown whether either of them have injuries.

"We are appealing for the driver and passenger of the vehicle to come forward as they may be able to assist with enquiries."

Anyone with information regarding the crash is asked to contact Cleveland Police on the non-emergency number 101.
