A DOG and a cat are believed to have been to blame for an accident which led to a car leaving the road and ending up in a bush.
Cleveland and Durham Road Policing Unit detailed the unusual incident which happened on Monday in East Cleveland.
"Interesting job before going off tonight," a spokesman wrote. "Officers were called to a report of a vehicle stuck in a bush on the Thornton to Seamer Road with a person inside the vehicle.
"Upon arrival, officers were informed off the elderly driver that the dog on the back seat wanted to see his friend bobby (a cat) on the front seat.
"This led to the dog leaping into the front of the car.
"A potentially very dangerous situation developed in which the vehicle ended up ploughing into a hedge."
Thankfully all three emerged safe and well.
The officer issued a word of caution: "Please remember when transporting your pets secure them properly your vehicle before setting off things can go wrong quicker than you expect!"
