A STARLIGHT stroll to raise funds for Teesside Hospice will take on a retro theme this year.

Women wanting to take part in the region's biggest ladies' only sponsored walk, seven miles along the Redcar promenade to Marske and back, can dress up in 70s disco gear for the event in June.

The Starlight Stroll is now in its seventh year and is the biggest annual fundraising event for the hospice. All money raised goes directly towards providing care to people suffering from cancer and other life-limiting illnesses.

The annual running cost of the hospice is over £2.5m. About a third of the costs are covered by the NHS, but it still needs to raise £5,200 each and every day of the year.

The 2016 Starlight Stroll has a 70s disco theme and will feature entertainment from Smooth Radio, a 70s photo booth, competitions and dancing.

Cllr Lynn Pallister, cabinet member for health and housing at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, said: “The Starlight Stroll...raises vital funds for Teesside Hospice to enhance the lives of those suffering from life-limiting illnesses.

"I wish the best of luck to all those ladies taking part, and with a 70s disco theme, it sounds like it is going to be great fun.”
