A MP has chosen the Teenage Cancer Trust as her charity of the year in memory of 15-year-old east Cleveland girl who died within months of being diagnosed with an rare form of cancer.

Redcar MP Anna Turley will be supporting the charity in memory of talented musician Georgina Anderson, who died in November 2013.

Since then, Georgina's family - parents Paul and Helen, and brother Joe - as well as friends and others, have raised thousands of pounds in the Marske teenager's memory.

The charity works to support young cancer patients and their families with expert care and support so that they do not have to face cancer on their own.

The MP kicked off the campaign with Redcar Town under-18s girls team who are wearing Teenage Cancer Trust kits this season, sponsored by her on behalf of the charity.

She said: “Georgina’s bravery, positivity and musical talent were an inspiration to so many as she fought her illness and shared her amazing voice with the world.

"Following their devastating loss, Paul, Helen, Joe and their friends have done brilliant work raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust in memory of their daughter, sister and friend."

While she was battling her illness, Georgina released self-penned song, Two Thirds of a Piece and YouTube cover of I Can’t Make You Love Me to help raise money for charity.
