POLICE are investigating after a member of the public found rounds of discarded ammunition on a North-East beach.
The ammunition, believed to be about 300 rounds of 5.56mm ammo, was discovered at the South Gare in Redcar at about 10am.
A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said: "The ammunition poses no threat to the public. Officers remain in the area and the road to the gare is closed while they carry out some searches of the surrounding location.
"No arrests have been made however an investigation has begun. The public are thanked for their patience whilst the police conduct enquiries."
