A JUDGE told a thief he would throw the book at him if he failed to turn up for a probation appointment.
Thomas Marshall, 23, of Hawthorne Drive, Redcar, had been due to be sentenced at Teesside Crown Court after admitting two charges of handling stolen goods between May 16 and 25.
The items included a cufflink, earrings and a camouflage jacket.
The case against Marshall could not be concluded as there was no report into his background.
Judge Simon Morris adjourned the case until October 22 and bailed Marshall, telling him he must see a probation officer and fix a date so the report could be prepared.
He told him: “If you fail to attend you could be arrested and kept in prison. If you let me down I will throw the book at you.”
Marshall replied: “No I won’t, I will be alright.”
