A MAN was savaged by a Staffordshire Bull Terrier whilst he was playing football in a field.

The 31-year-old was lifting the ball out of the dog’s way and it jumped up and bit his upper right arm, the right side of his torso and his bottom cheek.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 23 at 4.30pm on Roseberry Fields on Roseberry Road in Redcar.

The victim sustained deep dog bite injuries and he attended the NHS Drop in Hospital on West Dyke Road in Redcar where he received treatment.

The dog is described as large and is of grey and silver colouring and it was wearing a grey harness. It is also believed the dog is regularly on the playing fields unescorted.

Cleveland Police are appealing for the owner of the dog to come forward, or anyone who knows who the dog might belong to.
