VISITORS to a forest festival could be in for a surprise with larger than life creatures lurking in the foliage.
The Friends of Guisborough Forest and Walkway have joined forces with Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council and the Forestry Commission to bring a fun packed day together next month.
Now in its twelfth year the event has grown to become the biggest of its kind in the north and is expected to draw more than 3,500 visitors.
Amongst scores of attractions being lined up are the incredible larger than life Praying Mantas insects created by the acclaimed Artemis performance troupe. With glowing eyes and fluorescent green bodies these serene giants will mingle with the crowds and stir resident wildlife as they rustle through the undergrowth.
“Festival time is brilliant in the forest,” said ranger Neil Thirkell. “It's a celebration of the great outdoors in one of England's most most beautiful locations in the foothills of the Moors. As always we'll be urging people to try crafts and activities and chill out.”
Elsewhere there will be chance to try Japanese drumming and have a go at ancient skills like wood turning and willow weaving being revived by a new generation of craftsmen and women. X Factor star Abi Alton, from Guisborough, will also make an appearance.
