RNLI volunteers were called out to rescue a small leisure boat was swamped in the surf off Redcar on Wednesday afternoon.
The emergency call came just after 2.30pm when a 12ft cabin cruiser, which had been bought the previous day, was struck by waves in the surf line while being launched from the beach near the Majuba car park.
The Redcar RNLI lifeboat Leicester Challenge III was launched with a salvage pump and when the lifeboat arrived the crew found that the two men from the stricken craft had managed to get ashore unaided.
The lifeboat crew was able to pump the boat free of water so that it could be put back onto its trailer.
Later in the afternoon the lifeboat was launched at 5.15pm to go to the assistance of a 28ft fishing boat, broken down one and a half miles north of Saltburn.
The lifeboat rigged a tow and proceeded towards the disabled boat’s home port of Hartlepool until the Hartlepool all-weather lifeboat arrived on scene and took over the tow.
