RESIDENTS have been told to be on their guard after a second python was found on a Teesside road in two days.

Members of the public living in the Wilton and Guisborough areas should be vigilant, say police, after the reptile was found on Wilton Lane on Friday evening.

Officers say they are now seeking a man called 'Danny' who may have bought two snakes in recent days.

"The Burmese Python, which is around 8ft, was found by a member of the public in the middle of Wilton Lane at around 6.20pm. Officers were called and the snake was collected by vets," a spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said.

"This is the second snake found in the area in two days, and officers believe that they could have been abandoned are seeking information about a man called 'Danny'.

"As a result of that new information, Cleveland Police would like to hear from any person by the name of, "Danny," who recently bought two pythons from the Guisborough area," a spokesman said.

"In addition to this, Cleveland Police would also like the public to inform them of the full identity of any person they know in the Guisborough or East Cleveland area called, "Danny," who keeps snakes."

The Northern Echo:

The snake found on Thursday.

A 6ft royal python was discovered at 3.30pm yesterday on the same road.

"While there is no information to suggest there are any more snakes loose in the area, if any are found, they should not be disturbed and people and other animals should keep a safe distance," the spokeswoman added.

"Over the weekend, walkers on Wilton Lane should take a common sense approach and parents with children should be vigilant."

Burmese pythons are native to South East Asia while royal pythons originate from Africa. Both are generally docile in disposition.

Anyone with information on who the snakes may belong to is asked to contact Cleveland Police on the non-emergency number 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
