A WOMAN in her 30s was airlifted to hospital after road accident in East Cleveland yesterday (SATURDAY).

The driver was understood to have lost control on a bend and crashed into a van on the Liverton Road in Liverton just after 9.20am on Saturday morning.

Fire crews, from Redcar and Saltburn, cut the woman free from the car before she was taken to hospital by air ambulance.

A Great North Air Ambulance spokesman said: "A female driver had sustained head and chest injuries. After an assessment at the scene we assisted the road crews and fire service to release the patient from the wreckage before flying her into James Cook Hospital."

The woman had non-life threatening injuries and was understood to be in a stable condition.
