BAD weather failed to put a dampener on a charity fundraising day.

Despite wet weather, adults and children flocked to a summer fair at Marske Hall residential care home in Marske, near Redcar, to raise money for the charity that runs the home, Leonard Cheshire Disability.

The event featured music from the Teesside Pipe Band, Marske Brass Band and singing by youngsters from the local church, as well as taekwondo demonstrations, stalls, a bouncy castle and fire engine.

An exhibition was also held at the nearby Winkies Castle which documented the life of Leonard Cheshire and the creation of Leonard Cheshire homes.

Volunteer coordinator Ruth Hebden said she hoped the event would raise around £3,000.

“It went really well and despite the weather it was really well attended," she said.

“We are really well supported by the community and residents in the village who still came out to support us, despite the weather.”

Ms Hebden said 45 volunteers came to help out during the day, and thanked them for their support.

“We were delighted by the number of volunteers,” she said.

The exhibition at Winkies Castle runs until the end of June.
