A SUMMER of fun and fantasy will be playing out in with a series of live performances taking over Guisborough Forest and Walkway helped by a sprinkling of magic.

The Jungle Book will get the shows on the road on Saturday, June 27, before The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Treasure Island and an adaptation of David Walliams’ acclaimed book Mr Stink come to town.

Cllr Carl Quartermain, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's cabinet member for jobs, skills and leisure, said: “This quartet of productions will provide fun for all the family with something to enjoy for visitors young and old.

“The council is very pleased that well-known companies like The Handlebards and The Pantaloons want to bring their own unique twist on iconic plays to our borough. We hope as many people as possible can come down and enjoy all the events.”

The Sorcerer’s Apprentice will be performed on July 18, with illusions created by the magician Paul Daniels, with the latter three shows form an August triple-header of entertainment. Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream is brought to life on August 5, Treasure Island just under a week later on August 11 with Mr Stink rounding off a summer of theatrical delights on August 26.

All the shows are being hosted in Guisborough Forest and Walkway’s newly opened outdoor amphitheatre which was built by staff and apprentices at Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council with support from volunteers.
