AN actress and a world class pianist are to appear at Redcar's 'Tuned In' performing arts centre in April in an evening dedicated to the music of George Gershwin.

Susan Porrett, whose television performances include appearances in Foyle's War, Holby City and most recently the BBC Christmas production of Mapp & Lucia, narrates the story of the life of George Gershwin.

While Viv McLean, one of the UK's leading concert pianists and with a worldwide reputation for his interpretation of the works of Gershwin, illustrates the story with Gershwin's best known works. The programme includes 'Summertime', 'Rhapsody in Blue', Gershwin's 'Preludes', 'Swanee' and a selection from 'Porgy & Bess'.

A six-stop tour of the North-East is the penultimate leg of a whistle-stop UK tour for the show that has drawn packed audiences and rave reviews across the home counties in recent months.

"With only two weeks to go, more than 75 per cent of the tickets have already been sold. We are expecting another packed house," said concert organiser Peter Sotheran.

The concert takes place on Wednesday, April 8 at 7.30pm. Tickets costing £8 are available from Tuned In 01642-771245.
