AN OVERGROWN area near an east Cleveland town has been turned into a woodland park.

Cowscote Woodland near Loftus, which previously had allotments but also coal bunkers and garages, has been cleared by Coast and Country and planning consultants Valley Environmental Consulting

Now Loftus Scout Group, Skinningrove Mining Museum and Skinningrove History Group will design an information board for the woodland, which will identify different species of plants and wildlife in the area.

Middlesbrough College students are also in the process of designing and building an art feature for the park and a local tree carver has transformed a tree stump, creating a link to the past with a iron miner’s lantern and horses being carved into it.

Ronny Harris, assistant chief executive from Coast and Country, said: “As a conscientious landlord, Coast and Country believes in providing more than just houses. We are committed to improving our communities and the lives of our residents and this scheme is a prime example of that commitment in action.

“We strongly believe that well-managed green spaces help to bring communities together, creating friendships and providing leisure and educational opportunities.

“We hope that people will enjoy and care for the woodland and it becomes an important and enjoyable part of the community.

“Coast and Country would like to thank all involved for their valuable input into Cowscote Woodland and in helping to create this fantastic outdoor resource.”
