A DISTINCTIVE landmark is keeping out the chilly sea breeze after it wrapped up warm against the cold with a Valentine’s Day scarf.

The scarf at the Beacon, which has been knitted by members of Redcar and Cleveland Mind’s weekly Knit and Natter group, will be raising money for the mental-health charity.

Made up of individual sections, which can be sponsored for £10 or £3 for a message to a loved one to be attached, the hope is that once the scarf has served its purpose on the Beacon, the sections will be taken apart, cleaned and sent to other worthwhile charities which provide blankets for the homeless.

The scarf will be on display over Valentine’s Day weekend and for a few days after that for people to have a look at while members continue to raise money for charity.
