TRIATHLETES from across the area are been encouraged to sign up to this year’s Redcar Triathlon.

Entries went live for the event on Sunday (February 1) which is organised by Tri Hard Events Ltd in partnership with Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council.

The race, which starts with a sea swim at 11am, will take place on flat, fast closed roads and will also use a multi lap race format making it ideal for those new to the sport.

Councillor Olwyn Peters, cabinet member for culture, leisure & tourism, said: “The triathlon proved to be a very popular event last year so I would urge anyone wanting to take part this year to get their place confirmed early to avoid disappointment."

The minimum age for competitors is 16 and a wetsuit, road worthy bicycle and helmet are mandatory to take part.

There will be a number of road closures along the Seafront in place on the day, between 9am and 2pm. The roads affected will be Newcomen Terrace, Majuba Road, The Esplanade and Granville Terrace. Zetland roundabout will also be closed throughout the event and diversions in place.

Entry into the event is online only, so to enter please visit www.trihard.co.uk/Redcar/Redcarhome.htm
