A PUB in the shadow of Roseberry Topping has won two awards for the quality of its beer.

The King's Head Inn, at Newton under Roseberry, near Guisborough, was awarded a Cask Marque accreditation for serving the perfect pint of cask-conditioned ale.

The village pub has also been presented with Carlsberg UK's Gold Award, which rewards licensees for high product standards.

Paul Brown, general manager at The King's Head Inn said: "We make every effort to ensure our customers enjoy a first-class drink. It’s great to be recognised for the hard work we put into maintaining our cellar and giving our customers an excellent product.”

Jeff Acton, Trade Quality Manager for Carlsberg, who inspected the inn, said: “The King's Head Inn is definitely somewhere I would be happy to enjoy a pint.”

Cask Marque director, Paul Nunny, said: “Paul and his team should feel justifiably proud of this excellent achievement, which not only recognises the effort they put into serving the perfect pint but also acts as an independent guarantee of quality for customers.

“All too often, publicans don’t appreciate the care and attention cask beers require and then run the risk of losing custom by serving pints that are below par.”

The Carlsberg Gold award and Cask Marque accreditation are the latest accolades for the award-winning inn, which was a finalist in the recent Flavours of Herriot Country awards.
