CHILDREN at a Redcar Primary School have been given a large wooden seahorse sculpture by a housing developer.

The emblem of Ings Farm Primary School is a seahorse which inspired David Wilson Homes, a company building new homes in nearby Nunthorpe, to donate the sculpture.

The seahorse, which was one of many sculptures carved at an open day at the Nunthorpe development earlier in the year, has since been donated to the school, which has a seahorse as its logo.

The woodcarving now stands proudly in front of the entrance of the primary school.

Tim Bethell, headteacher at Ings Farm Primary School, said: “We were very intrigued to get a call from David Wilson Homes regarding the sculpture and when it arrived we were thrilled with our new mascot. It’s a beautiful carving and the students are already enjoying the addition to the entrance of the school so I’d like to thank David Wilson Homes for such a kind donation and I’m sure it will be enjoyed by our students for years to come.”

Fenton Hewitt, Sales Director at David Wilson Homes North East, commented: “Ings Farm Primary School is a fantastic education provider in the area and we are pleased to have been able to donate the sculpture to them. This is probably one of the more novel things we’ve donated to the local communities around our developments and the children certainly seem to be enjoying it.”
