THE closing date for entries people wanting to take part in the Redcar Half Marathon is getting near the finishing line.

Anyone wanting to take part in the run on Sunday, September 28, needs to register by Thursday 25 to get a place.

As well as the half marathon there are still places available for the 5km race which takes place after the main event.

Also joining in with the racing is the Ineos Go Fun Run, a one mile race for juniors that sets off before the main race and aims to give young runners a chance to show off their athletics skills.

Martin Miles, from Everyone Active who is co-ordinating the event with the council and New Marske Harriers Athletics club, said: “We encourage everyone to be active at whatever their own level is so that fact that the event this year includes a shorter 5K race as well as the 1K Go Run for Fun event for juniors.”

Starting at 10am, the Half Marathon is always a good fundraiser for a host of local charities and any runners still wanting to join up could provide a good late boost for fund raising efforts.

Councillor Steven Goldswain, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council’s cabinet member for community protection said: “The Half Marathon is always a very well attended event in terms of competitors and any more late entries would be welcomed with open arms – especially if it inspires some friendly competition.”

For anyone wanting to join, the entry fee for the Redcar Half Marathon is £27 with non-club runners paying £3 more. For the 5K the entry fee is £15 with the same £3 charged applying for runners not affiliated with an England Athletics recognised club.
